802nd PostCustom piece inspired by the Vermont State Seal and Coat of Arms. Almost fully healed now. I feel really privileged to have grown up where I did, and I owe a lot of myself to that. On this date in history in 1791, Vermont gave up its sovereignty, joining the United States as the 14th state. The first outside the original 13 Colonies. It abolished slavery while still independent, and upon joining the Union became the first state to have done so.

“Aerial view of Vermont State Capitol, Montpelier, Vermont. The present structure is the third since Montpelier was chosen the Capital in 1805. The first building was of wood, completed in 1808. The second was built of granite and completed in 1838. It was destroyed by fire in 1857. The present building was completed in 1859. An addition was built on the west side in 1885. The dome is built of wood and covered with gold leaf. The statue on the dome is of Ceres, Goddess of Agriculture.”
